Sir Digby Jones, director general of the Confederation of British Industry, has urged the new European commissioners to support UK business, by committing to reducing red tape, and ensuring that unnecessary burdens are not placed on firms.
The CBI director general is embarking on a two-day visit to Brussels to talk with the commissioners.
Sir Jones said that he was optimistic about the 'new mood in Brussels', but warned that 'a reform-minded Commission can only succeed if the heads of all the member states are committed to changing things on the ground at home'.
He called on the commissioners to commit to policies on improving EU competitiveness, and warned of the potential dangers of proposed changes to the working time directive, and the introduction of a temporary agency workers directive.
